SEATTLE – Once again, the White Sox’s limited offense forces a spotlight on any and all mistakes.
The most obvious on Friday in a tight game against the Mariners happened in the eighth inning with the score tied 2-2.
Gordon Beckham, who entered bating .147 over his previous 23 games, ripped a leadoff double down the left-field line against Felix Hernandez. A Juan Pierre sacrifice bunt moved him to third base.
With the infield playing in, Alexei Ramirez hit a hard ground ball right at Mariners shortstopBrendan Ryan. Beckham, who was just told not to stray too far on a ball on the ground, couldn’t get back to the bag in time as Ryan threw to third to start a rundown. Beckham was ultimately tagged out and the White Sox wouldn’t score.
The Mariners won the game an inning later with a run of their own.
