Shatner still has a lot on his plate

For William Shatner, the cancellation of his sitcom $#*! My Dad Says doesn't mark the first time he's had a series (most famously Star Trek) end abruptly. But that doesn't make it any less disheartening.
"It's really disappointing because I thought it was funny ... and it was on its way to being better," he said yesterday.
Shatner"The thing I'll miss most is that they were wonderful people that I became associated with. I just loved them - the cast, the crew and the management ...
"On the other hand, it frees me up to do many of these other things I want to do."
That's an understatement. At 80, the Canadian icon is more prolific - and popular - than ever. Due shortly: a Trek-themed documentary entitled The Captains; a new album, Seeking Major Tom; and a book, Shatner Rules.
Add to this his online omnipresence (a National Film Board video of Shatner singing the Canadian national anthem has gone viral) and touring schedule. He recently returned from performing a one-man show in Australia and continues to appear at the odd science-fiction convention. Next month, for example, he'll be at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo, which runs June 17-19.
All in all, life feels more than merely good.
"I heard yesterday the perfect line for it: 'I'm perfect - you should be standing beside me and you'd be next to perfect.' "
