Memorial Day weekend may bring relaxation, good food, fun and family times, but it also means more traffic and drunken drivers, authorities say.
"Being Memorial Day, traffic is going to be heavy no matter where you go," said Officer Scott Harris of the California Highway Patrol. "Give yourself enough time to get to where you want to go so you're not going to get upset."
I-5 delays
Those who are planning to travel south can expect delays on Interstate 5. A stretch of I-5 is closed in Kern County for repairs, causing there to be only one lane open in each direction starting two miles south of Seventh Standard Road and ending south of Buena Vista Canal Road.
Starting at the foot of the Grapevine, southbound traffic will be reduced to three lanes, as one lane is closed for a rehabilitation project, the state Department of Transportation said. The closure ends at the Kern/Los Angeles county line near Frazier Park.
