Uncasville, CT - Last week the Connecticut Sun destroyed a Chinese team in preseason action. That was last week. This week, the Sun faced their first WNBA opponent of the 2011 season and the outcome was far different than the pasting they delivered in their first game. Tonight they never led and were rolled over by the Silver Stars—final score: San Antonio 80—Sun 56.
Prior to the game Connecticut Coach Mike Thibault commented that the Stars are a more dangerous team than folks realize and any team that sleeps on them is going to be sorry. They proved that tonight by forcing the Sun into 19 turnovers and keeping Sun stars Asjha Jones and Tina Charles stymied in the post.
The Sun’s Tan White led all shooters with 15 points. Tina Charles had 12 points and 17 rebounds, several of them on her own missed shots.
The Stars were led by forward Sophia Young, who had 14 points. Jia Perkins had 12 and Becky Hammon and Danielle Robinson had 10 points apiece. Ruth Riley had seven rebounds and played a great defensive game in the post.
The Sun face the Stars in another preseason game on Friday at 7:00pm at the Mohegan Sun Arena in the Poconos, the first time they have played at that site.
