A Florida Lotto player who bought a ticket at a Hollywood convenience store beat the odds and suddenly became up to $35 million richer.
The winner has a choice: He or she can take the full prize amount in 30 annual payments or as an immediate lump sum of a bit more than half the advertised amount. Taxes will take a deep bite out of the prize either way.
The odds of winning the top Lotto prize: One in 22,957,480.
No one beat the odds in Saturday night’s multistate Powerball drawing, which rolled over to $200 million for Wednesday’s drawing. The numbers in that game were 12, 20, 43, 51 and 55, and the Powerball was 11.
Of course, the Powerball odds are a bit steeper: One in 195,249,054.
