One of Motion’s horses, Toby’s Corner, pulled out an unexpected win in the Wood Memorial, turning him into a Derby contender. His other horse, Animal Kingdom, had shown signs that he could run all day and eventually be a factor, but probably not right away.
On Monday morning, Motion was informed that Toby’s Corner had a leg injury, meaning he was a Derby scratch.
“Walking into the barn on Monday morning and they told me the horse is not right was as tough as you could get the week of the Derby,’’ said Motion. “I knew I had a very good horse [Animal Kingdom] in the Derby, but I still felt a sense of disappointment.’’
