Tough luck has been the theme of Shane Loux's season.
The Fresno Grizzlies starter once again produced a solid outing Monday, striking out eight Tucson batters in as many innings and allowing just two earned runs. But on this cloudy, cool day, Loux got a no decision and Terry Evans played hero.
Evans' sharp grounder down the third-base line drove home two, including a hustling Ryan Lormand from first, to give the Grizzlies' a 3-2 win against the Padres in front of an announced crowd of 4,460 at Chukchansi Park.
"It feels good to be able to contribute to the team and help us pull away with a win -- especially when Shane pitched as well as he did," Evans said.
Grizzlies pitching coach Pat Rice said Loux could be 6-1 instead of 2-3 in seven starts with a 2.78 ERA (his lowest since 0.84 as a minor-league rookie in 1997). Loux pitched well enough in his three losses to get wins, but the run support wasn't there. The Grizzlies mustered four total runs in those three contests.
