Thompson Sustainable Homes’ latest offering, The Melaleuca, is a study of sustainability and energy efficiency. The home was recently unveiled at the Ridges community in Peregian Springs, as one of seven new designs.
Having completed his advanced diploma in sustainability a few years ago, director Brad Thompson said sustainability was the direction the industry was heading in.
``It used to be a factor that being sustainable would cost you more but now it doesn’t, not with our houses anyway,’’ Mr Thompson said.
Despite increased interest in sustainable practices, Mr Thompson said a lot of people didn’t understand what sustainability was.
``There are two parts to it; there’s sustainability and there’s energy efficiency,’’ he said.
``Our slogan is `energy efficient by design’, so in that sense, we’re concentrating on making sure people save money on their electricity bills.’‘
The Melaleuca is rated 10 stars in terms of energy efficiency and is set across a 197sqm design.
Lots in Ridges Peregian Springs are priced from $215,000 for a 471sq m terrace lot.
The village is open from 10am to 4pm daily.
