Dwight Gooden said he had lost touch with former Mets teammate Lenny Dykstra in recent years, but got an unexpected visit from the man nicknamed "Nails" during Gooden's recent stint on "Celebrity Rehab."
"It was around 10 o'clock and I was getting ready to go to bed. All of the sudden, one of the guys behind the scenes says, 'Dykstra's here.' They tried to get Lenny to sign a waiver and he didn't want to do that," Gooden told the Daily News Tuesday. "It was crazy. He was like, 'Doc, you all right? I don't like this. I got your bags.' "
Gooden said he tried to calm Dykstra down and convince him that he wasn't being hypnotized by the show's host, Dr. Drew Pinsky, which Dykstra expressed concern about when he sneaked into Gooden's room on the set.
"I said, 'Everything's cool, Lenny,'" Gooden said. Asked if Dykstra returned his bags yet, Gooden laughed and said "No." The reality show, which featured former NBA All-Star Dennis Rodman and Roger Clemens' former paramour Mindy McCready in a previous season, assembles celebrities from the entertainment, music and sports worlds who are treated by Pinsky for various addictions.
