Whether he is throwing a 60-foot bullet or 60-yard bomb, Archie Bradley turns heads. Major League Baseball scouts lined up by the dozens to watch the Broken Arrow (Okla.) High School star strike out hitters this spring. In the fall, it was college football coaches.
Bradley has made one decision: If he goes to college, it will be at the University of Oklahoma, where he already has signed to play football and baseball. But that is where the next decision comes into play: Will Norman, Okla., still be in the cards if—as is expected—he is taken in the first round of the MLB Draft on Monday?
"He's an outstanding kid, you know. Great teammate and he's a competitor. That's what really showed in that last game," Bradley's high school baseball coach, Shannon Dobson, told Sporting News.
Bradley's numbers prove it. On the mound, the 6-4 righthander pitched the Tigers to the Class 6A state title, with a seven-inning, two-hit, 14-strikeout shutout in that last game—on just two days rest.
For the season, he struck out 137 batters in 71 1/3 innings and compiled a 12-1 record with a microscopic 0.29 ERA. For good measure, Bradley clubbed a team-best nine homers, batted .395 and drove in 31 runs.
