With all the concerns about the rising waters of the Missouri River, it might be nice to take a quick break and consider this: The Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge over that river has been named one of the world’s most beautiful pedestrian bridges.
The span that links Council Bluffs and Omaha was one of 14 bridges worldwide to earn the designation in the May edition of Travel + Leisure Magazine, said Council Bluffs Parks Director Larry Foster.
“The first pedestrian bridge to link two states extends for 3,000 feet over the bucolic Missouri and traces a gentle S-curve around its two supporting towers. A plaque marks the spot where you can have one foot in Nebraska and the other in Iowa,” the magazine wrote.
It also said the bridge has energized the waterfronts of the two cities.
