Suspected thief back in custody

A suspected copper thief shot during an apparent burglary attempt in April is back in police custody.Police said they were dispatched to 2511 Pierce St. late Saturday afternoon to investigate a possible burglary at a vacant rental property.Authorities searched the residence and located a man hiding in the basement. More searching uncovered bolt cutters and pieces of copper that were being stolen from the house, police said.The suspect, identified as 41-year-old James D. King, is no stranger to police.
An Omaha landlord shot King in the leg in April after encountering him in the basement of a house at 3220 Poppleton Ave. Authorities found evidence of a copper theft at that property, and eventually issued a warrant charging King with burglary.King was booked on Saturday at the Douglas County jail on suspicion of burglary, possession of burglary tools and the outstanding warrant.
