Hope Ford will be crossing the stage Thursday night in the Havre de Grace High Schoolauditorium.
Her boyfriend wanted her to. He talked her into it.
And while Michael Sawyer won’t be there to see it, he’s been on her mind nonstop since he died.
“We’ve had [graduation] practices the last couple of days. I haven’t gotten through them. I’m bawling. I keep scanning the audience expecting him to be there,” Ford said. “I wasn’t planning on walking at graduation, but he convinced me to. Two days before he died.”

oreline of the Susquehanna River known as “the swimming hole.” It’s an area many teens have frequented on hot days. Ford, herself, was a regular there last summer.
Classmates returned there Tuesday to pay tribute to Sawyer after the first day back in class following the long holiday weekend.
