Art just part of fair’s allure

Enlarged photoSometimes it takes an art fair to raise a village.
For 41 years, the Countryside Village Art Fair has brought artists together, providing public exposure to their work and to the local businesses at 87th and Pacific Streets.
Among the artists Saturday was Randy Patzer, 56, of Omaha. When he wasn’t selling his copper artwork, he was engaging fairgoers in warm conversation.
“I hope they have a good time,” Patzer said. “We want them to enjoy it.”
About 130 artists, ceramicists, jewelers and sculptors from across the country set up at the fair, which also featured food and live music.Event organizers said 35,000 were expected to attend the two-day fair.
To create his work, Patzer first hammers out copper into various designs by hand. Then he heats the metal to change its color.Other artists showcased metal animal sculptures, woodwork and pottery.
“It’s one of the best shows in Omaha,” Patzer said. “I’ll keep coming back as long as they let me.”
